An excerpt from a talk today:
It’s very common for us to speak in terms of what’s next: What can we renovate next? Who can we partner with next? What events can we pull together next? Which web tool are we going to build next? We’re becoming very future-focused and starting to move toward a culture of constant improvement. (or at least change)
The first step though is not being afraid to swim in open waters. Not fearing uncharted territory. Not needing a map, just a compass. We can’t be scared to break away from tradition, from the conservative mindset of the role and symbol of a library. We’re striving to become a modern learning space, rather than just a library. We strive to understand the big picture needs of our patrons and then reshape the library around them. So metaphorically, if our students need an underwater mailbox, we’ll try our best to provide that service for them.
