Brian, this is a great idea and a wonderful way to build community. I look forward to seeing how it works out and the response it gets from your patrons.


Thanks for sharing this. I'm wondering how you secured funding for this and how you plan to assess its impact. Those are two big obstacles that I encounter when experimenting with new marketing ideas.


KG- No funding is required other than print costs. Everything is produced in-house-- that was one of the key things allowing the project to happen. In terms of assessment-- analytics as well as the rate of students taking the cards. It's more of a service-- like an interactive display in my mind-- rather than promoting the library. I am trying to build a new relationship between our users and the library and this is the type of thing that starts that process. In terms of assessment though, you might consider ILLing my book-- there is a chapter dedicated to that topic. I'd be curious to learn more about your work.

I have ILL'd your book and it certainly does have good ideas. We may even consider it for purchase.

I too, though, wonder how you covered the costs of the cards that have the mag stripe on them. Does your print shop already carry these as a stock item, so that you only have internal printing costs for the front of the card, and then does a staff member load the song onto the mag stripe?
